The Solution
Emergent Software approached the engagement by implementing a structured digital estate discovery process designed to provide a comprehensive view of the organization’s existing environment. The goal was to gather accurate, data-driven insights that could inform a realistic and actionable cloud migration strategy.
To accomplish this, Emergent deployed the Azure Migrate appliance, a tool designed to securely and automatically collect telemetry data from on-premises and hosted environments. The appliance was configured to operate within the company's private cloud environment while adhering to strict security and access controls.
Over a four-week period, the Azure Migrate appliance continuously collected data on server configurations, performance metrics, and system dependencies. This telemetry provided a detailed understanding of how workloads operated within the existing environment, including resource utilization patterns and relationships between systems.
The collected data was then analyzed to identify opportunities for optimization and to determine how workloads could be effectively transitioned to Microsoft Azure. This analysis included evaluating infrastructure requirements, estimating cloud costs, and mapping dependencies to ensure that migration planning accounted for the full complexity of the environment.
One of the key outputs of the discovery process was a comprehensive migration roadmap. This roadmap outlined recommended approaches for moving workloads to Azure, including sequencing considerations, architectural recommendations, and cost projections.
